I don't make a lot of daily-sized themeless puzzles, but the quad stack in the northwest corner was promising enough to finish the grid. The clues today are way more challenging than my usual work, so brace yourself!
23-A was a serendipitous addition, and put this puzzle squarely in the "not mainstream" pile. (The clues for 1-A and 23-A do pass the "breakfast test," but the entries ... well, I suppose it depends on what you like to discuss over oatmeal.)
If you're curious about 39-A, take a look at this, and if you haven't yet heard 46-D (or want a refresher), check this out.
Have a great weekend!
